The right clothing for a job interview
Getting the job: From writing a resume to correct office wear.
Job hunting is a daunting and often nerve wracking experience even for the most career hardened candidate. From the initial process of sending out your CV to the interview there are a few simple techniques that can be implemented to assist you in getting your dream job. The first step is having a CV that impresses the employer enough to call you in for the first interview. Once you have cleared this vital hurdle it is essential that you make a good impression on the one giving you the interview, an important part of this is choosing the correct corporate clothing. Office wear can be a veritable minefield for somebody entering the job market.
Your resume should be brief yet informative, it is important to include extra-curricular activities that show your strengths and your ability to work as part of a team with potential employees, however, employers are not interested in the fact that you helped out backstage in a grade 8 production of Green Eggs and Ham. If you don't think an achievement or activity is relevant to the job you're applying for then rather leave it off, rather than making you look uninteresting it will create a sense of professional mystery. Include all qualifications from the last year of high school to present. Degrees and diplomas from tertiary education institutions should include more detail than your high school results. Include the type of degree the majors and the subjects you took, with results. If possible include a full academic transcript with your application. On your CV include any additional skills you may have received training for.
Once you have secured the interview, presentation is everything. You have thirty seconds to make a good first impression and arriving in appropriate office wear will go a long way to helping create the winning impression. Corporate clothing is an important part of any job, no matter how qualified you are. Being able to show an understanding of this at an interview will add immeasurably to your future job prospects.
Research the office environment of the job you are applying for and more importantly how much face time you will be having with clients. This will tell you a lot about what type of corporate clothing you will be expected to wear. It doesn't hurt to dress slightly more smartly for the interview than you would be expected to dress in the office. Cape Town is situated mainly on a mountainous peninsula that stretches from the Cape Flats in the north to the Cape of Good Hope in the south. That won’t be a problem, because there are organised bus tours and walking tours that can be arranged by contacting Cape Town Tourism. Some of the more independent minded visitors like to strike out on their own and wander through the diverse neighbourhoods. This certainly leaves you free to make up your own schedule, and provides an up-close look at how Cape Tonians live. But it can lead to safety issues in a city that has a crime problem in some districts, and could also result in the novice visitor missing some of the best sights.

If sightseeing is your main reason for visiting, then you can’t miss by investing in the Cape Town Pass. This pass is valid for one, two, three, or six consecutive days. It provides you with admission to more than seventy Cape Peninsula and Winelands attractions. The only notable exceptions are the cable car to Table Mountain, and Robben Island. You can also hop into a small bus called a Rikki, which is an open van. The Rikki and shared taxis that follow informal routes throughout the city are inexpensive, and give you an opportunity to ride with the local folks. It might not be as comfortable as an air conditioned bus, but you will have a genuine Cape Tonian experience. For getting around town at night, the safest way is by regular taxi.

Golden Arrow buses and City Sightseeing Cape Town Tour buses will take you to most of the city’s districts. For sights along False Bay, the train is best. It follows the coast, and offers some spectacular views. For this option’s top value, ride the train first class during the peak tourist season.
Drive With Caution
Some parts of the city, particularly in the southern part of the peninsula and the townships, are most easily accessible by car. Visits here can be illuminating, but use caution. Don’t put temptation in front of poor people. You should be safe enough, especially if you have a specific destination, such as a local B&B. Enjoy the great sights of Cape Town, as well as its eclectic underside.

Shopping in Cape Town, South Africa
Never thought of Cape Town as a shopping haven? Many would call it retail therapy but I would prefer the term retail harmony when shopping in Cape Town. A truly satisfying shopping experience is what you will find here, from indigenous art to the latest technology gadget. Whether you are a mega-mall shopper or flea market fan, Cape Town will not disappoint.
Ask any Capetonion about Tyger Valley Shopping Centre and they'll be proud to point you in the right direction, if it's not too far away, that is. Stepping into this mall gives you a sense of coherence with its arty decor and 'disabled-friendly' facilities. Imagine a shopping mall with 5,000 car park lots! You can't. With over 250 shops spotting the latest fashion and technology, a banking mall, medical facilities and cinema complex, it doesn't get any better really. Turning to a different scenario, let's go to Green Market Square. Located in the city centre, this cobbled Square bustles with stalls selling African artwork and clothes.
A stone's throw from here on Long Street, you can find a similar market, so don't shop on impulse. At the Green Point Market, situated close to green Point Stadum, you will find amazing work of art by the locals as well as surrounding regions. Interested in holistic wares, visit Holistic Lifestyle Market in the Observatory where you'll be charged by the ways of Feng Shui, Aromatherapy, Foot Reflexology, Astrology or the Chinese art of Tai Chi.
If you have more time on your hands, head for the Waterfront to experience the largest indoor craft market in South Africa at the Red Shed Art and Craft Market which is opened daily from 09h30 – 18h00. And yes, how can we forget the antique lovers. These shops are strewn all over the city but for a wide variety with ranging prices, visit the antiques market at Church Street. If you are willing to travel a little out of town, there are more antique and bric-a-brac shops along the False Bay Coastline.
We didn't forget the all important jewellery shopper either, or shall we say "precious stones" shopper. For a change, head for an interesting place called Scratch Patch at the V&A Centre. It has to do with "scratching", unpolished gemstones covering the floor! I'll leave it to your imagination. Don't miss it. If you are a 'serious' diamond/precious stone shopper, head for Diamond Works, at the Metropolitan Life Centre sitting opposite the Cape Town International Convention Centre. The friendly staff, first hand knowledge of diamond processing and not forgetting the champagne will definitely sweep you off your feet.
